Custom Anet A8 Frame Design
Printer Frame V1
This is my first attempt at designing my own 3D printer. Even though I never got past the modeling phase of the design I learned a lot about large assembly file organization which carried over into version 2 of the design.
Printer Frame V2
I took the lessons I learned from version 1 and worked on developing the finalized design. This included changing the aluminum square tubing into 40 40 extrusion to simplify construction, as well as reworking all 3D printed components implementing proper modeling procedure to improve ease of future modification.
Improved organization
This project really taught me the importance of file organization for large assemblies. When designing version 2 I improved file organization in a few ways. First by breaking down the major movement axis into sub assemblies. Next I used Tree House, a program that assists in organizing large assemblies by visually showing the relationship between parts in an assembly, and finally by using proper modeling procedure, including properties such as material and part numbers to all components of the assembly.
